Police Week Celebrated in Peel Region

This week is Police Week across the province and beyond. Many police services mark the occasion with community events including the Peel Regional Police. Police Week will be celebrated at the Emil Kolb Police building at 180 Derry Rd on Saturday May 11th.

Come and check out the many displays, BBQ, fun things for the kids and of course the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band will perform at 12:15pm. See you there, rain or shine!

Peel Players Win PPBSO Champion Supreme

Midori Tonogai receives her Grade 2 Snare Drumming Champion Supreme award from PPBSO President Duncan Macrae.

Just as the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band claimed it’s third consecutive PPBSO Grade 1 Champion Supreme title two of our newest members also captured Champion Supreme awards. Midori Tonogai took home the Grade 2 Champion Supreme award for snare drumming and Marshall Chamberlain was awarded the C.S title in two categories, Grade 3 Light Music and Novice Piobaireachd.

Congratulations to Midori and Marshall, well done!

Toys for Tots – It’s That Time of Year Again!

The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band is proud to once again participate in the Toys for Tots program with the Peel Regional Police, Canadian Tire and the Salvation Army. Hundreds of girls and boys will receive a gift this Christmas who otherwise wouldn’t, thanks to this great program. It’s never too early to get started and you can help by donating an unwrapped gift for a girl or boy, a cash donation or Canadian Tire money which the Canadian Tire Corp will match and Toys for Tots will use to purchase extra toys. Your donation can be given to any member of the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band or cheques made payable to Peel Regional Police – Toys for Tots and forwarded to;

The Kincardine Scottish Festival is in the books for another year! A great day with nearly perfect weather that saw 30 bands from across North America compete in five band catergories. Not a bad day for Peel placing second behind the Toronto Police. Congrats to them on their win! It was great to have all three Ontario grade 1 bands present along with the City of Chicago band and their lead drummer Chris Barr who is on the mend after being involved in a very serious car crash.

2012 Season Upon Us

The 2012contest season started on a high note for the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band in Kingston last Saturday with the band taking top honours in an MSR and Meldey contest. This was the first year that the Kingston Scottish Festival offered a Grade 1 contest and by all acocunts it was very well received.

The season continues on June 9th with the Georgetown Highland Games followed by a trip to Oberlin Ohio and then back into Ontario with the Kincardine Highland Games, Cambridge Highland Games, the North American Championships at Maxville and our annual trek to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow Scotland in August.

A busy summer ahead!

Fever CD Available

Released in October of 2011, the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band CD “Fever” is now in the hands of pipe band enthusiasts from around the globe. John Elliott from Sparta Wisconsin recently purchased a copy and had this to say about the Fever CD

“I just received a copy of the latest Peel Regional Police Pipe Band CD from Bill Baines and I have two words to share with you…. BUY IT!

Not only fantastic piping and drumming but the audio production is fantastic. One of, it not the best sounding piping CDs in my collection”.

PRPPB and Members Score Champion Supreme Titles

On Saturday November 5th the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band was presented with it’s second consecutive PPBSO Grade 1 Champion Supreme award at the Society’s annual awards gala. Also being recognized on the night were the Champion Supreme soloists including several members of the band.

Receiving the Champion Supreme Solo Awards were;

Grade 1 Snare – Iain Bell

Professional Snare – Mitchell Mackay

Piping, Senior Amateur Piob – Brendan Culver

Piping, Professional Piob – Liz Sheridan, sharing the award with Ian K. MacDonald

Congratulations to these members, well done and best of luck in 2012!

Peel Fans Generate Healthy Donation for JDRF

The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band along with Scantily Plaid and the Scottish Dance Company of Canada performed to an enthusistic crowd of 400 plus at Cawthra Park Secondary School in Missisauga on October 15th. Thanks to those who attended the concert the PRPPB and was able to present the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with a $3,000 donation.

Much of the music that was performed during the show is contained in the band’s latest CD entitled Fever’ and is available through the web site or from band members.
