About the band

The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band (PRPPB) was formed in 1976 and is based in Brampton, Ontario.  The band wears the Ancient MacPherson tartan and the unique diced glengarries – which are symbolically worn by police pipe bands around the world.

The band was promoted to Grade 1 in 1992 and 2017 will mark the band’s 25th anniversary at the premier grade level.

In September 2008, Pipe Major John Cairns took the helm of the band.  He has been playing and leading Grade 1 bands since 1982 and is considered one of the worlds top players.  He is an adjudicator and a much sought after instructor who brings to the table a formal music education, work ethic and drive for perfection that is second to none.

Since 2008, the band has won 4 North American Championships, 3 US Open Pipe Band Championships and 4 Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) Champion Supreme titles for the best Grade 1 pipe band in Ontario.

In 2015, Reagan Jones took over as the leader of the band’s mid-section and brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience at the highest level. Reagan is viewed as one of the best bass drummers in the world and with her formal background as a music teacher, she is well positioned to develop a world class mid-section.

In September 2016, Harvey Dawson took over the reigns as the bands Lead Drummer.  Harvey’s talent, accomplishments and experience are second to none and he has won 12 North American Open Professional Pipe Band Solo Drumming Championships and 5 US Open Professional Pipe Band Solo Drumming Championships.  We are all excited about the positive impact Harvey will have on the band in 2017.

The PRPPB currently has 40+ members who come from all walks of life and bring an indeterminate amount of experience with them. Our members are engineers, students, teachers, H.R. and medical professionals to name but a few and all are tremendous individuals who share the common goal of being a world-class grade 1 pipe band.

The band continues to exist thanks to the ongoing support of the Peel Regional Police Service and Chief of Police Jennifer Evans and are proud of our long history with them. Each year the band participates in a number of events on behalf of the Peel Regional Police Service. These events include recruit graduation ceremonies, awards and promotion ceremonies and community events, however none are more important then our participation in the Ontario Police Memorial at Queens Park each spring and the National Peace Officer’s Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in the fall. These two events pay tribute to police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
